Lt. Yash Chopra, a famous Bollywood producer & director is the one who introduced every Indian rather Bollywood fan to Switzerland. He was also known as ‘King of Romance’. His 1985 film Faasle was his first production to feature in Swiss meadows and mountains but the blockbuster hit that put Switzerland on stage was a song and dance sequence from film Chandni & one my favorite movies & song though.

For, many Indian tourists including myself visiting Switzerland is because of massively popular & Hit movie “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” from his production house. Many of his films featured Switzerland as a backdrop, and all credit goes to him for enhancing the popularity of the Alpine nation among Indian tourists.

Switzerland honour Indian filmmaker Lt. Yash Chopra with a statue for his spectacular contribution towards Swiss tourism. The 350kg Bronze statue was inaugurated by his widow, Pamela Chopra and the ceremony was attended by Rani Mukerji (Daughter-In-law). The event was organized by Interlaken Tourism and Jungfrau Railways. The Statue now stands in “Kurssaal Garden” in the Central Swiss town of Interlaken, Canton Bern is a replica of the one in Chopra’s film studio in Mumbai.

Switzerland remained his favorite overseas destination for filming and so swiss honored him in 5different ways.

  1. The 350 kg, Bronze Statue.
  2. The government of Interlaken awarded him the Honorary title of ‘Ambassador of Interlaken” in 2011.
  3. Switzerland’s Jungfrau railways inaugurated a train named after him which features his signature and name on a signboard.
  4. A special deluxe cinema-themed suite at Victoria-Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa is named after Chopra.
  5. Lake Lauenen, in the canton of Berne also unofficially referred as Lake Chopra.
  6. A silver plaque dedicated to him was placed on the Hoheweg, Interlaken’s main street.
