In India, it’s very common to see Paan shop’s and especially outside restaurants/Hotels. It’s tempting, effective mouth freshener and also said to be good for digestion. It’s consumed after the meals preferably after dinner.
Paan is made of betel leaves filled with spreads, grated coconut, fennel seeds, cherries, gulkand, tutti-frutti all flavorsome mixes and it is a very delightful treat after your meal.
‘Shaukeen’ a complete paan shop in Pune. If you want to visit this place you really need to be a paan shaukeen as they offer a variety of flavors in paan right from classic maghai to their special gold plated paan. Though my all-time favorite is Maghai or masala paan.
The two unique paan which I witnessed were ‘The Gold Plated” and the other is ‘Fire’ paan.
Ambiance: A decent and neat shop. As you enter you will witness a range of different flavored and colorful paan’s.
What we ordered??
It was a late evening when me and my cousin visited this place.
I tried ‘Fire Paan’ but the video did not turn out to be good so not posting. A clove is set ablaze which is attached to the paan and when the paan sets to have a flame it is directly put into your mouth and within a fraction of minutes the paan melts into the mouth and smoke is released from your mouth/nose. (its fun to try but still need to be careful).
Flavored Paan we ordered Maghai, chocolate, Mango and kesar.
All were very good and flavorsome. Paan was nicely stuffed with masala and was freshly made. It just melted into the mouth giving a delightful and juicy flavor.
Service: The staff at the counter are very prompt and quick in service. If you are confused they will also guide you for selecting the paan. You will also get a customized paan if you have any special requirements. Flavor’s they offer are chocolate, vanilla, mango, strawberry, Kesar, pista, etc…
Price: Starts from 25rs till 400rs per paan.
location: Shaukeen Paan Shop, Erandwane, Nal stop showk, Pune
Tips:
- This place is typically crowded in the evening especially late evenings or nights. So, keep patience.
- You can customize the paan as per your choice.
I will visit soon to try more flavors.
