Delicious!! is the only word i can say for this appetizer. A canape is a small cracker in round or square shape which are readily available in market. A canape is a base topped with main item and a garnish. It is a lip smacking and eye pleasing appetizer which you can eat in one or two bites. This is one of the best item which can be served as a starter during party, get together or birthday. I usually prepare it on weekend so that we relish the appetizer.
It is very easy to prepare, best thing is you can do variations in it as per your choice e.g. creamy cheese, fruit & cream, chickpeas, vegetables etc.
Today, I am sharing a very simple, healthy and delicious Canape recipe by using Indian chat items but our main ingredient is sprout.
So, let’s start with the recipe: Canapes – Indian Chat
Ingredients
- Canapes – as required (for this post I have taken 6pcs).
- sprouted Black Chana – ½ cup
- sprouted Green Moong – 1cup
- Onion – 1no
- Tomato – 1no
- Salt – ½ tsp (as per your choice)
- Chat masala – ½ tsp
- Red chili powder (paprika) – ½ tsp (as
Garnish
- Tamarind chutney
- Mint chutney – small
- Sev – ½ bowl
Step by step recipe:
Step 1: Take sprouted Black Chana add little water and salt to it. now, pressure cook it for 2 whistles. In a vessel/kadai pour water, little salt and sprouted green moong. Let it boil for 5-7 minutes. Once boiled strain it in a strainer and let it cool down.
Step 2: chop onions and tomato finely.
Step 3: Take a mixing bowl place all ingredients in it i.e. cooked black chana, green moong, chopped onion & tomatoes. Add salt, chat masala and red chili powder mix all these ingredients well.
Our main ingredient is ready it time to place it in Canapes
Step 4: The canapes which you get in market are soft and non-crispy so we need to bake it in a microwave for about 1-2 mins. You need to keep a check while they are baking otherwise it can turn black i.e over baked which will be a waste. If you don’t have microwave then you need dip it in hot oil i.e fry.
Step 5: Arrange baked canapes in a plate and slowly place the stuffing inside it.
Step 6: Now, add a dash of tamarind chutney, mint chutney and top it with sev.
Tips:
- you can prepare the stuffing before but placing or plating should be done before serving otherwise the canapes will become soft.
- If you don’t have canapes then top this filling on a biscuit cracker, salted biscuit or roasted bread.
- There is no specific measurement for making sprout chat stuffing, you can adjust the amount of sprouts or spices as per your taste.
Children’s and Elders both will love these canapes. So, do try and let me know.
